Vintage

There was lots of talk in the lead up to the 23/24 growing season about the shift of weather patterns from La Nina, wich had dominated for the last few vintages, to the hot and dry El Nino. In reality it was a slow shift. There was several frost events between mid setp to the end of October that need to be navigated. And the cool temp and wet wethater in spring had a big impact of flowering of all the early growing varieties, resulting in lower than average yields. The big shift in the weather patten occurred in mid December and North canterbury experienced a typical long hot dry summer that we hadnet seen scince vintage 2020, following was a cooler but equally dry autumn. Which allowed a long hang time for the fruit to develop beautifuly concentrated flavours and ripe phenolics.

Vinification

All fruit is estate grown and cropped at a maximum of 5T/Ha. We are looking for a combination of ripe flavours, bold acidity, and satisfying texture. We pick the fruit from each of our terraces individually and they remain separate for all the vinification.

66% of the final wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks, to preserve the crips fruit profile and to protect the distinctive thiols of our Sauvignon Blanc. The remaining 33% of the wine is fermented with high solids, with wild yeast in old French oak. This brings in the complexity of texture and minerality to the final wine.

After three months resting on light lees all components were blended and stabilized in early spring.

Wine

Pale gold with silver streaks

Aromas of yellow and green citrus, sweet red capsican, hints of sage and thai basel combined with passionfruit seed and warm wet river gavels.

Bright citrus, white necaturne with underlying tropical notes, pink lemonade and salty grapefruit pith on the finish. The sweet fruit characteristic interplays with the crisp acid and silken texture to give a long lingering mouthfeel.
