Askerne
Merlot Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 750ml
WINEMAKING NOTES
The grapes for this wine were sourced from both the top and lower terraces of the Askerne vineyard across different soil profiles from sandy silts through to gravels, giving wonderful complexity to the individual parcels that make up the blend. Each batch was fermented as individual varieties followed by extended post maceration on skins to build richness. After pressing, the wines were settled and racked to French oak barriques. Here they completed malolactic fermentation and were matured for 9 months before blending. The final wine was made up of 67% Merlot, 22% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, with a 15% new oak component and 30% second fill.
ANALYSIS

TASTING NOTES
Fruit notes of black plum, blueberry and raspberry. The full fruit character is ably matched with big impact oak barrels which contribute a strong vanilla and toast aroma profile. The palate is squared off in equal measures of fruit opulence, crunch acidity, chunky tannins and a savoury long finish.
