Welcome to Paritua

Paritua is located in the heart of the Hawkes Bay Wine Region, the ‘Bridge Pa Triangle’ District. This is one of New Zealand's most diverse regions for the growing and crafting of premium red and white wines. The name Paritua is a tribute to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the vineyard. Paritua means ‘the meandering stream above the ancient river’. The vineyard is planted over the historical riverbed of the nearby Ngaruroro River which flowed through pre the 1860s earthquake. It is a name that also acknowledges the connection with the land and the people of New Zealand.

The vines were planted in 2003 and with 53 hectares (130 acres) planted in three phases: seventy percent is devoted to red varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec – with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay completing the picture. Paritua’s vineyard enjoys stony, free draining soils, long summers and crisp winters, which combine to produce exceptional wines. Paritua is in conversion to Organic Viticulture and will be fully certified in March 2022. At Paritua we craft boutique, bespoke wines from the oldest gravels in Hawke’s Bay.

The development of the vineyard and winery infrastructure was a collaboration with leading New Zealand architects, Crosson Clarke Carnachan who understood the drive for bold architecture that truly embraces the landscape. Every design aspect was carefully considered and the winemaking operation had to be not only efficient, but also sustainable with the added requirement to sit gracefully in its environment.

The shared belief at Paritua for why we do what we do is that New Zealand and Hawke’s Bay provides many opportunities not just for work and investment, but for a way of life. The fresh, clean air, the beaches and beautiful landscape are best enjoyed when shared with a great glass of wine and a platter of local produce.

Green Certification: Paritua is certified as Sustainable by SWNZ the Sustainable Winegrowers of New Zealand. Paritua is also Bio Gro certified as in conversion to Organics.

"Paritua is a Hawke’s Bay winery that has steadily grown in stature over the past decade and certainly has a place on my watch list of rising stars.

Their greatest strength is in Bordeaux-style red wines from their Bridge Pa Triangle vineyard. With the help of a high-tech digital sorting machine that photographs every berry, rejecting those with imperfections, Paritua seems to be able to make good wines in even slightly challenging vintages such as 2018 and 2016, although good viticulture and the watchful eye of the winemaker, Jason Stent, probably play an even more important role.

It’s worth visiting this stylish, modern winery’s recently-opened cellar door and to add your name to the mailing list. They’re making good wine now but the future looks even more interesting.

The Paritua Syrah 2018 is a supple, elegant syrah with plum, berry, violet, black pepper, tobacco and spicy oak flavours. It’s an intriguing and complex mix of fruit and savoury flavours. Approachable but with good cellaring prospects. (93 points)

Finally, the Platinum Cabernet Sauivignon 2018 is intensely-flavoured with blackberry, cassis, fresh herbs and cedar flavours giving a strong varietal identity. A core of sweet fruit balanced fine, ripe tannins. It can be appreciated now but it has plenty of cellaring potential. (95 points)"

Paritua Red is a stylish, full-bodied blend of merlot 58%, cabernet sauvignon 26% and cabernet franc 16%. A bright, high-energy wine with dark berry, cassis, plum and spicy oak flavours. Good purity and power. An age-worthy wine. (94 points) Drink 2020–2028

Paritua Red 2018 - 93 points

It's gorgeously composed and expressed, showing dark fruit richness with cocoa, smoked game, anise and cedar characters on the nose. The palate is equally impressive with outstanding weight and concentration, wonderfully enhanced by multi-layered mouthfeel and silky tannins. A blend of 58% merlot, 26% cabernet sauvignon & 16% cabernet franc. At its best to 2028

Paritua Syrah 2018 - 94 points

This is gorgeously fruited and immediately appealing on the nose showing dark plum, mixed berry compote, violet, vanilla and hazelnut characters. The palate delivers excellent concentration and fruit intensity backed by silky texture and polished tannins, leading to a persistent velvety finish. At its best to 2028

2018 Paritua Syrah – 91 points

Delightfully aromatic scents of cracked pepper, purple raspberries and crushed violets emerge on the nose of Paritua's 2018 Syrah. It's medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins, plenty of colour and concentration and a bright, refreshing, fruit-driven finish that makes it easy to drink now, although it should age well for at least another few years. It doesn't have the granite-mineral core or savoury notes of a top Saint-Joseph, but it's in that mould. Drink 2020-2024
