Pask Declaration Syrah 2021 750ml

Winemakers Notes | Gently handled throughout its winemaking the wine is an excellent example of a Gimblett Gravels Syrah. Elegant and poised with black peeper, cassis and dark fruit florals on the nose. The pallet is long and elegant with finely worked tannin. Estate bottled 15/10/2022.

Vintage Detail | After a spring with few frost events, the growing season saw mild summer days and cool nights with brief rain. The lead up to harvest was cool with refreshing winds and corresponding rainfall that kept the vineyards green and with solid canopies. Harvested mid March saw fruit that was ripe, clean and bright.

Bob Campbell, 2024

94pts | Supple, elegant Syrah with plum, cherry, berry, fresh herb, black pepper and spicy oak flavours. Complex wine with nicely layered flavours supported by vibrant acidity. 2023-2037

Gavin Hubble 2024

5* | In the glass a deep plum colour and shing hue. On the hypnotic nose, you have aromas of violets, dried herbs, white pepper, plums and a hint of smoky vanilla essence. The lavish medium-to-full palate is filled with wild berries, fleshy dark plums, an earthy-tobacco-leaf nuance and wrapped in confident tannins and nicely supported by balanced vanilla oak. The wine is kept energised by good fruit acidity and signs off assertively with a lingering dry finish.

Cameron Douglas MS 2024

93pts - Excellent | A noticeable concentration of colour at the core followed by perfume and varietal fruit signatures of violet and plum, pure black currant, dark raspberry and darker skinned orchard fruits. There’s a layer of spice from clove to licorice to a whisper of pepper. Still very youthful as the wine touches the palate, tannins and acidity engage the senses quickly then contrasting core fruit flavours begin to melt these away. The oak signature of wood smoke and toasty spices seems well placed given the concentration both on the nose and palate. Well made with plenty of length and persistence. Best drinking from 2024 through 2029+.

Andrew Caillard, Gimblett Gravels AVS 2023

96pts | Medium-deep crimson. Beautiful raspberry, black pepper aromas with underlying roasted chestnut notes. Supple and expressive with plentiful pure raspberry, strawberry fruits fine slinky textures, lovely mid palate viscosity and well-integrated roasted chestnut notes. Finishes chalky, juicy and minerally with a fine tannin plume. Elegantly styled but superbly balanced wine. Drink now - 2028

Dense in colour with purple margins, the nose shows lifted florals with just a hint of cassis and pepper spice. The palate is firm with elegantly handled tannin and a long savoury finish. Harvested March 2021. Tank fermented with gentle remontage for colour, flavour and tannin extraction. Considered time in oak for maturation, with regular racking for clarification and freshening.
