2021 Eaton Raupo Vineyard Pinot Noir

Raupo is situated on gentle North-facing slopes in the upper Omaka valley and shares latitude 41.57 with Clayvin and Wrekin vineyards. Raupo is farmed with biodynamic Organic methods and has high density planting which all add to the purity of the site expression found in wines made from this vineyard. 

Yields are kept very low and irrigation is kept to a minimum as we work to drive the roots deeper into these unique soils.

Winemaking is done is small 800kg batches ranging from 20-100% whole cluster and with the addition of no commercial yeasts, enzymes, acid or fining agents. After fermentation, the wine is aged in french oak for 11 months before being settled and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasted over three days this wine displayed a consistent varietal and complex bouquet throughout that time. Aromas and flavours of fleshy dark red fruits and Doris plums, some five spice and crumbled stone mineral qualities. Acidity at medium+ and an abundance of fine long chain tannins along with barrel toast and spice qualities lay down a sound foundation for ageing as well as contrast to the fruit core on the palate. Well made and lengthy, complex and very tasty. A wine for enjoyment from day of purchase through 2032+.
