Jackson Estate
Grey Ghost Barrique Sauvignon Blanc 2018 750ml
Lifted notes of white peach, nectarine and mandarin blossom combine with a complex gun flint aroma and supportive lees character on the nose. The stone fruit character follows through to the palate, where the creamy lees component combine with softer acidity and background minerality to form a textured and layered wine.
“A striking bouquet with scents of gooseberry and lemon, barrel spice and ferment characters of pith and sweet cashew butter then vanilla and baked stone fruit suggestions. A vibrant texture from the acidity and fruit spice, lees and mineral qualities wake up the palate to flavours of lemon and peach, fresh red apple and grapefruit. There’s a floral side to the wine too with a white blossom suggestion. I found this wine to drink best at around 12 degrees celsius so don’t be afraid to do the same. A long satin finish and persistent flavours offer this wine for best drinking from 2022 through 2028+.” - Cameron Douglas
"Named after the gigantic old gum tree that grows on Jackson’s Homestead vineyard that apparently makes ghostly noises as the temperature cools down and night settles in. Made by Matt Paterson-Green, this sauvignon is hand harvested, whole-bunch-pressed and then fermented in old, French oak barrels which inject a rich, round, smoke-edged note into the wine. It retains classic herb-heavy notes, yet the acidity is dialed down a tweak, the toastiness turned up, the richness rolls across the palate like a tasty tsunami of citrus and it makes me a happy sipper."
