Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2018 750ml
Grape Variety 100% Chardonnay Vineyard/Region Hawke's Bay (Te Awanga) Winemaker Tim Turvey Winemaking notes The grapes were hand-picked and then whole-bunch pressed. The juice was lightly settled at ambient temperatures. The long and cool fermentation took place in French oak barrels (35% new) and the wine was later barrel-aged for 10 months. Full malolactic fermentation underpinning a full blown oak experience of vanilla and toast drive the wine back to the Chardonnays of old. Alc: 14% pH: 3.56 TA: 5.9 g/l RS (residual sugar): 0 g/l Colour Golden Nose Ripened yellow peaches, nectarines with lemon and vanilla, supported by moderate gun-flint, butter and dustiness. Palate Generous on the palate with peaches and nectarines, peaches, lemon, creamy in texture balanced by taut acidity, baking spices, citrus pith aromatic. Food match White fish with beurre blanc sauce; light white meat. Label/Artwork info Artist : Michael Nock. “Vineyard in Orange” (1970)Michael Nock spent his school holidays on his grandfather's sheep and cattle station in central NSW. In the nearby town of Orange a small vineyard was established to primarily grow Chardonnay grapes. This painting was completed in 1970 on one of his trips and seemed to express the rich buttery flavour of the Hawkes Bay Chardonnay made for Nockies Palette by Tim Turvey. Reviews Review by Candice Chow in May 2020, 93pts: "Bright, medium even yellow with a green-golden hue. Clean, ripened yellow peaches, nectarines with lemon and vanilla, supported by moderate gun-flint, butter and dustiness. Generous on the palate with peaches and nectarines, peaches, lemon, creamy in texture balanced by taut acidity, baking spices, citrus pith aromatic. This Chardonnay is well-rounded with a lot of likeabilities, generous primary flavours of stone fruit, lemon and vanilla, creamy palate with a light note of butter, the complexity of baking spices, citrus pith and gunflint balanced by taut acidity to a long dry finish. Drink well now to over the next five years with white fish with beurre blanc sauce, light white meat."
