Welcome to Blue Earth Estate international e-cellar door
Blue Earth Estate is an award-winning vineyard and olive grove on an old river terrace above Te Muna Valley, just outside of Martinborough. Stony soils overlaying a limestone terrace, a gentle north facing slope and exposure to the sun and the wind, combined with meticulous care produce small crops of intensely flavoured grapes.
Mike and Margaret Hanson began planting the vineyard in 1999 and have nurtured it through embracing sustainability principles. They use intensive canopy management and minimal irrigation to prevent disease and maximise flavour. They make most of their own power, do extensive plantings of native trees and have provided a habitat for native birds.

Blue Earth Estate Pinot Noir 2019 – 95 pts

A very enticing bouquet of Pinosity with a savoury red fruited beginning then as the wine opens out in glass scents of plums and barrel spices, a sense of mineral earth and dried stones begin to emerge. A bouquet of complexity and youthful, charm and concentration. Flavours on the palate mirror the bouquet with a firm texture from chalky through finely textured tannins, there’s acidity to carry the wine and concentration for several years and a length and complexity for the same. Well made and lengthy, youthful and taut, a wine that should offer best drinking from 2025 through 2035+.

Aromas and flavours of fresh red apples and pears, some white spices and a touch of quince. Crisp, spicy, fruity, aromatic and just dry on the palate. Flavours of white fleshed orchard fruits with a spice layer are consistent on the palate, medium+ acid line and gently warming alcohol. A satin texture with mid palate fruit flavours and a squeeze of phenolics back palate stretch the wine out nicely. Well made and ready to drink from 2023 through end of summer 2025.

Medium deep ruby-black, lighter on the rim. The nose has a profound, composed elegance, penetrating aromas of dried floral, dark herbs, cherry, black plum and savoury elements. Medium-bodied, cherry and black plum entwined with thyme, rose petals, hibiscus, liquorice, shiitake and undergrowth. The flavours show intensity and concentration; dark herbs and floral details layered with finely-weaved silky tannins lend a fragranced long finish. This beautiful Pinot Noir possesses layers and elegance with a silky tannin framework and an enticing, savoury finish. Match with truffle risotto and roasted pigeon over the next 8+ years.
