Martinborough Estate Gewürztraminer 2024 750ml
Sam Kim: Wine Orbit
97/100 - 5 Stars
Perfumed and inviting, the bouquet shows mango, pineapple, lychee, and Turkish Delight aromas with a warm spicy overtone. The palate offers succulent fruit intensity with fleshy texture and elegant sweetness, perfectly countered by juicy acidity, making it superbly harmonious and seamless with a sustained, exotic finish.
At its best: now to 2034
We love Gewürztraminer more than any other variety. If there was ever anyone truly deserving of this wine, then think of vivacious Marilyn Monroe undulating over the subway grate in her fluttering white dress - fun, flirtatious, seductive, sexy, and simply the most beautiful among the beautiful.
There are no subtleties here - instead, there is opulence and flesh dancing with florals and lychees and damn right there is sugar, sugar for richness and the need to balance the spice and alcohol - a captivating pirouette atop the palate. There is intensity, however, and with so much intensity you need balance. Hence, the acids are the subtle backbone for complexity.
A wine that is mesmerising, Moorish, fabulous at every turn, soft and curvaceous, stuffed with flavour and spice and innuendos, a wine without equal. It has an unequivocal sensuality.
